Why I Take Creatine in the Morning

When I first started adding supplements into my routine, one of the things I had to figure out was when I was actually going to take everything.

Creatine was one of them.

You’ll see people taking creatine before workouts, after workouts, mixed into shakes, or at different times throughout the day. For me, I found that the easiest answer was simple:

I take my creatine in the morning.

Not because I think the morning is some secret perfect time to take it, but because it's a time that works with my routine—and that makes it easier for me to stay consistent.

Why Morning Works for Me

Between work, workouts, errands, and everything else going on during the day, I don't want my supplement routine to be complicated.

So I try to attach things to habits I already have.

Creatine became part of my morning routine.

I wake up, start my day, and take it. I don't have to worry later about whether I remembered it or try to time it perfectly around my workout.

For me, simple usually means consistent.

And that's something I've learned with fitness in general. The “perfect” routine isn't very useful if it's so complicated that you can't stick with it.

Do You Have to Take Creatine in the Morning?

No.

I take mine in the morning because that's what works for me, but creatine doesn't have to be taken at the exact same time I take it.

Creatine works by increasing the amount of creatine stored in your muscles over time, so consistent daily use is generally more important than obsessing over an exact time of day.

That's why I don't stress about trying to take mine exactly 30 minutes before or immediately after a workout.

I just make it part of my day.

What My Morning Supplement Routine Looks Like

Creatine isn't the only thing I take regularly.

Creatine — I take this in the morning.

Micro-Factor — This is part of my everyday supplement routine.

Full-Mega — Another product I take daily.

I like having a routine like this because there isn't much thinking involved. These products have their place in my day, and then I move on.

Consistency Beats Making It Complicated

This is probably the biggest lesson I've learned.

It's really easy to get online and find 100 different opinions about the “best” time to do something.

What's the best time to work out?

What's the best time to take creatine?

Should you drink your protein immediately after your workout?

When should you take your vitamins?

Before long, something that should be relatively simple starts feeling complicated.

I've found that I'd rather build habits that fit naturally into my life.

For me, that means creatine in the morning.

For someone else, taking it with lunch or after their workout might be easier.

The important part is finding a routine you can actually maintain.

The Bottom Line

Yes, you can take creatine in the morning.

That's when I personally take mine because it's easy for me to remember and fits into my daily routine.

You don't have to copy my exact schedule. Find a time that makes sense for you and that you're likely to stick with.

Because when it comes to fitness, I've found that making something simple enough to consistently do is usually a lot better than constantly chasing the “perfect” routine.
